Chapter 1
"Hmmm, let's see", Thought Tyler Chambet as he sorted through the mail, "Bill, Bill, Junk…Wait what's this?"
It was a large envelope addressed to Tyler instead of his parents. The return address said "Massachusetts School for Gifted Youngsters".
"What the hell?" he muttered as he walked back towards his house.
Ring.
Ring.
Ring.
"I GOT IT!" Yelled Carrie, "Hello."
"Umm, Hi. Carrie?" a familiar questioned into the receiver.
"Hey Tyler."
"What'cha doing."
"Nothing. Why did you call"
"I got a letter from a school…"
"Which one?"
"Massachusetts School for Gifted Youngsters."
"Oh! You got one of those! I threw mine away. The last thing I need is to move all the way from Seattle to Massachusetts just so my parents can spend more money to school me."
"My parents want me to go."
"Oh"
"…"
"…"
"I have an interview at school with an Emma Frost tomorrow and if all goes well I'm leaving in two days."
"That sucks."
"I know. Could you come to my house I need to talk to you face to face."
"OK."
Carrie Johnson hung up the phone and told her mom she was leaving. As she walked out the door she thought about her best friend Tyler Chambet. She and Tyler had grown up together. Meeting in preschool they got in a fistfight over the last cup of apple juice and quickly became fast friends. They had gone through everything together. From being tested for the gifted program at school to the "geek" remarks that quickly followed.
"It's not fair", she thought as she walked down the sidewalk to his house.
In Snow Valley, Massachusetts a young mutants powers are manifesting. He sees the strange energy rip through his parents, and he watches as they fall to the floor. He feels their deaths happen and he screams. He screams at the monster that his genes are making him become. He screams as he feels a dozen people die as his power rips through a whole city block and then retreats into his small, human frame and then Russell Lindsoe collapses into the rubble that used to be his home.
