(Page 2, panel 1. The White Queen stands.) Queen: Of course, Mr. Montoya. You are in the market for a new mainframe, and Frost industries is among the final 4 in the running for the contract. We have what you need to meet your information needs. Aguila: Now, you know that we will have a mainframe here and in Madrid. It is important that we get two mainframes that can instantaneously talk to each other on secured lines. (Panel 2. The White Queen approaches a screen.) Queen: Of course, Mr. Montoya. We have prepared a short film for you and your associates. (Panel 3. Go down to see Jubilee, M, Husk, Synch, and Chamber sitting in the back of a limo. All but Jubilee are busy studying. M has her face buried in a physics textbook. Husk studies a history book. Synch studies calculus. Chamber studies English literature.) Jubilee: This is like so majorly boring! I wish Ms. Frost would like hurry up in there! Husk (annoyed): Jubes, be quiet! I'm trying to study! (Panel 2. All but Jubilee continue to study while Jubilee is bored.) Cap (N1): Jubilation Lee is not known for being very patient. Cap (N2): She's also not known for being able to study hard. Cap (N3): And her grades reflect that. Cap (N4): In her case, she is more of a fun-loving person. Cap (N5): She's more at home at a party than at a lecture. Cap (N6): Her friends are taking advantage of this moment to catch up on some studying they need to do. Cap (N7): She needs to do so as well. Jubilee: Bored Bored Bored Bored Bored. Synch (looks up): Can't you study something? We've got exams in two weeks. Jubilee: I like forgot my books, o.k.? Husk: Leave it to Jubilation not to plan ahead. (Panel 3. Chamber gives Jubilee an English textbook.) Psi Balloon (pointing to Chamber): Take mine, Jubes. Jubilee: Uh. . . right. (Panel 4. Jubilee studies the textbook.) Cap (N1): It's not very often you see Jubilation Lee studying. Cap (N2): So enjoy it while you can. (Page 3, panel 1. The others continue to study, and Jubilee pretends to study.) Jubilee's thoughts: (Jeez, this is so boring! I wish something would happen.) Cap (N): Be careful what you wish for, Jubilee. . . (Panel 2. Who would do such a thing? Synch: I don't know, but we should find out. (Page 5, panel 1. Cut back over to the White Queen and El Aguila. We see the White Queen wrapping up her presentation.) Cap (N): And back with the White Queen. . . Queen: And that concludes this presentation. Are there any questions? Aguila: I think not, Seņorita. Well, we have a few more presentations, but right now it's lunchtime. We will reconvene after lunch. (Panel 2. The people file out. Aguila follows the White Queen.) Aguila: Seņorita, I was most impressed with your presentation. Queen: Well, thank you. Aguila: Perhaps we can discuss more over lunch, no? (Panel 3. The White Queen faces El Aguila.) Queen: Well. . . alright. Cap (Q1): He's interested in me. Cap (Q2): The things I do to get ahead in this world. . . (Panel 4. They hear the explosion from off panel.) SFX: WHOOM! Cap (Q1): That's where the students are! Aguila: Excuse me, Seņorita. . . I have to. . . alert the authorities on this. Queen: Uh. . . right. (Page 6, panel 1. Aguila goes off.) Cap (Q): He seemed to want to get rid of me in a hurry. Perhaps I should have searched beneath that veneer of being a wealthy playboy. (Panel 2. The White Queen rushes out of the building to see M setting the limo down.) Queen: Monet, what happened? (Panel 3. The others exit the limo as the White Queen approaches them.) M: I do not know, Ms. Frost. We were studying for our upcoming exams when there was an explosion next to our limo. (Panel 4. The White Queen examines her limo.) Queen: That's the fifth limo this month that's been ruined. I wish people would stop ruining my property. Limos don't grow on trees, you know. (Panel 5. The members of Generation X approach the White Queen.) M: I am sorry, Ms. Frost. The bomb ruined most of it. Synch: It was a good thing that nobody else was in there at the time. I'd hate to think of the injuries this bomb may have caused. Queen: The question still remains: Who did it? (Page 7, panel 1. Go back to the bomb blast site. We see El Aguila, now in his uniform, looking the place over. His sword is by his side.) Cap (A1): [This is a horrible thing to do.*] Cap (A2): [Why would anyone want to cause such destruction?] Cap (N): *Translated from the original Spanish. (Panel 2. The members of Generation X and the White Queen enter, wearing their uniforms. They meet El Aguila.) Queen: There he is! Skin: Hola! It is really him! (Panel 3. That's Seņorita Frost! Aguila: Hombre, you know of me? Skin: What child does not? El Aguila, the star of the novelas. Jubilee (confused): Like, what are you talking about? (Panel 5. Skin and Aguila shake hands.) Aguila: It is good to meet a fan, hombre. (Page 8, panel 1. Aguila and Skin separate. Use Skin's words to identify the members of Generation X.) Skin (1): Allow me to introduce us. I am Skin, Skin (2): Chamber, Skin (3): M, Skin (4): Jubilee, Skin (5): Husk. Skin (6): And the White Queen. Queen: You seem very familiar, El Aguila. Have we met before? (Panel 2. Aguila kisses the White Queen's hand which he holds.) Aguila: Only in my dreams, Seņorita. Skin (quietly, to El Aguila. Use a dashed word balloon): Cuidado, El Aguila. She is telepathic. Jubilee: What was that about a novela? And for that matter, what is a novela? (Panel 3. Skin turns to Jubilee.) Skin: Well, there is a series of short novels out in Spanish concerning the legend of El Aguila. They said he was real, but I never thought I'd meet such a hero. Queen: Well, what are you doing here? (Panel 4. The White Queen and El Aguila separate.) Aguila: I was looking for some clues as to who planted this bomb. (Panel 5. Enter the police.) Policeman: Alright everyone, let's keep calm here. I'd like everyone to give a statement about what happened here. (Panel 6. Go to later. We see the members of Generation X and El Aguila at a police station.) Cap (N1): Several hours later, and giving statements to the police. . . Policeman: Just be where we can reach you, alright? (Page 9, panel 1. They walk out of the station.) M: This leaves us with one problem: We don't have a way to get back to the penthouse. Aguila: Allow me, Seņorita. I have a limo at my disposal. (Panel 2. Aguila talks on a cellular phone.) Aguila: That's right, we are at the police estacion. (Panel 3. Aguila hangs up his phone, and puts it in his sash.) Aguila (1): He will be here shortly. Aguila (2, to M): So where is this penthouse you speak of? M: It's in Tribeca. Aguila: Ah. Alas, I live in Spanish Harlem. Perhaps we will meet again. But for now, Adios amigos. (Panel 4. Aguila swings away on a rope.) Skin: Muy Interesante. . . (Page 10, panel 1. There is a Limo there, with the door open.) Driver: El Aguila said to take you wherever you wanted. (Panel 2. We see the members of Generation X sitting in the back of the limo.) Psi Balloon (1, pointing to M): If I didn't know you better Ms. Frost, I would say you liked him. Psi Balloon (2, pointing to the White Queen): What business is it of yours, Monet? (Panel 3. M and the White Queen continue to talk telepathically.) Psi Balloon (1, pointing to M): You didn't give him the brush-off like you usually do. Psi Balloon (2, pointing to the White Queen): Let's just say there's a reason why I didn't spurn him. Psi Balloon (3, pointing to M): You do like him. (Panel 4. The White Queen stares sternly at M.) Psi Balloon (1, pointing at the White Queen): This is none of your business, Monet. He's just. . . alright. He's the guy I'm trying to pitch a new mainframe to. Psi Balloon (2, pointing at M): That's the Spanish leather magnate? Come on, you could have come up with a better lie than that. Psi Balloon (3, pointing to the White Queen): I am not lying, now drop the subject. (Page 11, panel 1. Go outside to see a tracer in the shape of the letter T on the rear bumper of the car. Panel 2. Go back to El Aguila. We see him finish turning back into a nice suit and tie.) Cap (A1): I need to help those people who were hurt in that blast. Cap (A2): I have enough guilt on my mind from what happened when my mutant power first manifested itself. . . (Panel 2. Go to a flashback. we see Alejandro Montoya, now 13, begging on the street. He holds a tin cup, and is dressed in rags. Next to him is Migdela, also 13, and wearing rags. She holds a wooden bowl.) Cap (N1): Life wasn't always easy for Alejandro Montoya and his cousin, Migdela Cap (N2): In the town of Bilbao they had to scrounge for food to get by. Cap (N3): That is, until that fateful day. . . (Panel 3. Alejandro and Migdela pass by a bank.) Alejandro: [Money, money everywhere, but not a centavo for us.] Migdela: [Patience, Alejandro. We will get food for the day.] (Panel 4. We see them in an alley a little later.) Cap (N): A little later. . . Alejandro: [Well, we have a few scraps to keep us from hunger tonight.] (Page 12, panel 1. two bandits enter, carrying sacks of pesetas. They are not looking where they are going.) Crook: [You'll never get me alive!] (Panel 2. The crooks collide with Alejandro and Migdela, sending all four of them to the ground.) SFX: WHOMP!! All: UF*!! Cap (N): *Spanish for OOF!! (Panel 3. The four of them stand. Alejandro holds his tin cup.) Crook: [Out of our way, dirty brats!] Alejandro: [Please don't hurt us. . .] (Panel 4. One of the crooks strikes Migdela, knocking her down.) SFX: WHACK!! Migdela: UHN!! Crook: [And you're next, nino!] (Page 13, panel 1. suddenly the tin cup discharges a blast of electricity, hitting the crooks.) SFX: ZAP! Crooks: [EYOW!!] (Panel 2. The crooks fall. Enter the police. Alejandro drops his tin cup.) Alejandro: Madre de dios! Migdela (stands): Alejandro. . . que pasa? Policeman: [Nobody move!] (Panel 3. Later, at the police station. We see Alejandro and Migdela Montoya at the police station.) Cap (N): Later. . . Policeman: [There was a reward for catching these criminals. You now have 15,000 pesetas niņos. Your parents should know about this.] Alejandro: [But we have no parents. . . we live on the streets.] (Panel 4. The policeman looks Alejandro and Migdela over.) Policeman: Then you will come to the orphanage run by the church. (Page 14, panel 1. Fade back to the present. El Aguila sits at the table from earlier.) Cap (A1): And the orphanage helped my cousin and I. Cap (A2): So I contribute what I can to it. Cap (A3): And have a factory in the town I grew up in, so that people can help themselves. Cap (A4): Who's next on the list of perspective sellers? (Panel 2. Go back over to the limo. We see the driver drop the members of Generation X off at the White Queen's penthouse in Tribeca.) Driver: Have a nice day, amigos. Jubilee: So, like, what do we do now? Queen: You go and study for your upcoming exams, Jubilation. (Panel 3. Cut over to a shady garage. We see the Bombardier's rocket car stop. The Bombardiers get out of the car.) B-2: An excellent operation today if I do say so myself. B-52: You said it, B-2. B-17: Hey, we're the best, B-52. Nothing can stop the Bombardiers!* Cap (N): *If you can name the Bombardier's one and only appearance prior to now. . . you are without a doubt one of the biggest Marvel zombies in existence. (Panel 4. They gather around a map of Manhattan, which lies on a table.) B-2: That is but the first of our targets. . . and the rest will fall like dominos. (Page 15, panel 1. Go back to Generation X. We see them relaxing in the White Queen's New York penthouse. The place is lavishly decorated in the White Queen's taste.) Cap (N): A little later. . . Queen: Alright. I'm going to treat you to one of my special home cooked meals. Husk: It's not going to be like the last one, is it?* Cap (N): *Generation X #20. (Panel 2. The White Queen approaches Husk.) Queen: Don't worry, I've got a well-stocked pantry here. Jubilee's thoughts: (That's what I'm afraid of.) (Panel 3. the White Queen turns to Jubilee, and scowls.) Psi balloon (pointing to the White Queen): I heard that, Jubilation. Synch: Well, I guess we should make the best of this situation guys. M: Do we have an alternative in the matter? (Panel 4. The White Queen turns to M.) Queen: Well, you can starve. Return to your studies, I'll tell you when it's ready. (Panel 5. The phone rings.) SFX: Ring Ring! Queen: Let me get that. (Page 16, panel 1. The White Queen talks into the phone) Queen (1): Hello? Queen (2): I see. Queen (3): Well, I did have plans for the night, but I can easily change them. . . Queen (4): All right, pick me up at 7:30. (Panel 2. The White Queen hangs up the phone.) Queen: Change of plans, everyone. I've got to go wine and dine a customer. Jubilee (smiles, quietly): Yes! (Panel 3. The White Queen turns to Jubilee.) Queen (very coldly, with icicles on the word balloon): What was that, Jubilation? Jubilee (taken aback): Uh. . . I mean. . . it's a bummer we won't get to enjoy your cooking. Queen: I'll give you some money for some pizza delivery thing. And do me a favor, don't get into trouble while I'm gone. (Panel 4. M faces the White Queen, who turns to her, scowling.) Psi balloon (Pointing to M): This wouldn't be Mr. Montoya, would it? Psi balloon (pointing to the White Queen, icicles on the balloon): Stay out of this, Monet. (Panel 5. We see the White Queen dressing in a low-cut white dress with a miniskirt on it.) Cap (N): A little later. . . Cap (Q1): The things I do for a client. Cap (Q2): Sure, Alejandro is cute. . . Cap (Q3): But I don't think things could ever work between us. Cap (Q4): He does seem interested in me, however. Cap (Q5): You've got to use every advantage in this business. (Panel 6. We see the White Queen put on some gold jewelry.) Cap (Q1): Sometimes I wonder if I should do this? Cap (Q2): I know it isn't right to string him along. Cap (Q3): But sometimes, I can't help myself. Cap (Q4): And he had pretty brown eyes. . . Cap (Q5): I think I'm trying to convince myself that I should love him. Cap (Q6): Well, should I? (Page 17, panel 1. The White Queen puts on high heeled shoes. She sits on a chair.) Cap (Q1): There's a lot of unresolved feelings here.> Cap (Q2): Maybe by going out with him, I can resolve these feelings. (Panel 2. The White Queen stands. M appears in the doorway.) M: Are you decent, Ms. Frost? Queen: Come on in, Monet. (Panel 3. M approaches the White Queen.) Queen: What do you need? M: It is more like what you need. Queen: Excuse me? (Panel 4. M stands opposite the White Queen.) M: I hope you are not going to use Mr. Montoya's infatuation with you to your advantage. Queen: Of course not, Monet. M: Then you do like him. (Panel 5. They continue to talk.) Queen (1): Well, since you're going to find out the truth anyway. . . Queen (2): Part of me says go for it, and part of me says run away. M: That does sound confusing. (Panel 6. Same as panel 5.) Queen: I know, but I'm hoping that tonight will help me decide if I want to love him or not. M: Well, before you can decide that, you have to decide what you want from a lover. (Page 18, panel 1. They exit the room together.) Queen: I'm not sure if I want to take advice from someone who said "All boys are not worth my time." M: Sometimes the best advice comes from someone who doesn't play the game. (Panel 2. They walk out of the hall and into the living area.) Queen: So what is this big advice that you want to give me? M: Love can only really be based on trust. (Panel 3. M and the White Queen approach the door. In the background we see Jubilee, Synch, Husk, and Chamber ordering a meal on the telephone. Skin approaches the White Queen, holding a book.) Skin: I wish I could talk to El Aguila again. Queen: I have a feeling you'll meet him again soon. (Panel 4. Exit the White Queen. She waits outside the front door.) Cap (Q1): Well, here it is, it's now or never. . . Cap (Q2): My stomach is in knots. Cap (Q3): My knees are shaking. Cap (Q4): Is this what love is really like? (Panel 5. She waits some more.) Cap (Q1): My mind is going through so many thoughts, Cap (Q2): I can't keep track of them all. Cap (Q3): Is this what love is really like? (Panel 6. Same as panel 5.) Cap (Q1): My mouth is as dry as a bone. Cap (Q2): My senses are on overload. Cap (Q3): Is this what love is really like? (Page 19, panel 1. Enter El Aguila, wearing a suit and tie. He holds a single rose.) Aguila: Buenos tardes, Seņorita. Are you ready? Cap (N): Can anyone really be ready for something like this? Queen: Yes. (Panel 2. They go off together.) Cap (N): And fate will work itself again. . . (Panel 3. Go over to see them in a nice Mexican restaurant in Spanish Harlem. Alejandro sits opposite the White Queen.) Cap (N1): About an hour and a half later, maybe more. Cap (N2): You know how New York traffic is. Cap (N3): They arrive at Spanish Harlem, and a special restaurant that has been a favorite of Alejandro Montoya's. Cap (N4): It is here that things will come to a head. . . Alejandro: I am glad that you have chosen to have dinner with me. Queen: Well, there's just too many things going on around here to ignore. (Panel 4. They look over the menus.) Aguila: This is my favorite place. They have everything made just the way I like it. (Page 20, panel 1. We see them facing each other, making conversation.) Cap (N): And after ordering dinner. . . . Alejandro: So you grew up amongst Boston's elite, no? Queen: Oh yes. I had a rather nice childhood. Cap (Q): Until the day my mutant powers first manifested themselves. Alejandro: I grew up more or less on the streets of a small Spanish town. But once I turned 17, I started to work at a Spanish leather tannery. I became quite good at it, and then started my own business. It took off quite a bit, and now I find myself the leading importer of Spanish leather to the United States. (Panel 2. They continue to talk.) Queen: Frost industries was relatively small and backward when I took it over. We made cheap calculators and other simple electronic equipment. But then I found out about the personal computer around 1978, and we started making cheap, quality personal computers. Things took off quickly and we made a lot. Now I'm on top of a major empire as well. (Panel 3. A waitress enters, carrying two orders of Mexican food. His consists of enchiladas, beans, and rice. Hers consists of a chimichanga and beans and rice.) Waitress: Se sirve la cena, seņores.* Cap (N): * Dinner is served - loosely translated from Spanish. (Panel 4. We see them eating dinner.) Cap (Q1): Dear me. Cap (Q2): This is more spicy than I anticipated. Cap (Q3): I'll do my best to eat this. Cap (Q4): But I don't know how well it will hold up inside me. Alejandro: Are you alright, Seņorita? Emma: Just fine. (Panel 5. They finish, and are walking out of the place.) Cap (N): And after dinner. . . . Alejandro: You should like what I have in store for us next. Queen: Alright. (Page 21, panel 1. Cut back to the rest of Generation X. Missing is Chamber. We see them paying for the pizza. There is a pizza delivery male a little older than they are with the pizzas.) Cap (N): And about the same time, back in Tribeca. . . Deliverer: That'll be $28.94. (Panel 2. Synch and Skin take the pizzas as M pays for them.) M: Keep the change. Deliverer: Alright, thank you very much. (Panel 3. Exit the deliverer.) Jubilee (1): You know, he was kinda cute. Husk: Jubes, he was too old for us. Jubilee (2): Well, I can't wait to scarf some pizza. (Panel 4. Go to outside, down the road. we see the Bombardier's car fly in, and land.) Cap (N1): And just down the road about 1 block, Cap (N2): The Bombardiers make people pay for their refusal to pay protection. (Panel 5. The bombardier's fire lasers from their car, hitting a building.) SFX: FZAPT! (Panel 6. the people in the building panic, and run out.) B-2 (from inside the car): This is the price you pay for not paying your protection! (Page 22, panel 1. Go back to Generation X. We see them sitting in the living room, eating the pizza.) Jubilee: Major coolness! I like get to scarf some pizza with my friends! (Panel 2. They hear the laser shot from offpanel. They turn to the window.) SFX: FZAPT!!! Synch: What was that? (Panel 3. They rush to the window, and see the Bombardier's car ram the building. People scream and run in terror.) Jubilee: Major bummer! Psi balloon (pointing to chamber): Let's get out there. (Panel 4. We see the members of Generation X flying or being carried by someone who is flying. M carries Jubilee and Husk, and Synch carries Chamber and Skin. They fly to the apartment where the bombardiers are.) Jubilee: Alright you dweebs, stop what you're doing! (Panel 5. Go inside the bombardier's car.) B-17: So what do we do about them? B-2: A bunch of kids can't hurt us here. . . just get rid of them.
