Mondo is this teen's code name and assumed real name. His last name has never been mentioned in this comic. Now this 19 year old tactile metamorphing teen was first shown in Generation X #3 for a brief mention. There, Cordelia Frost (Emma's younger sister) was trying to convince the easy-going Mondo into coming back to the states with her, away from the small island they were on, to become a superhero. He had just saved two young children's lives and she wanted to broaden his experience in the superhero biz. The rather pleasant Mondo calmly stated that his world is on the island and it is in no need of being saved, everything was fine.

That care-free life would be short lived however as in GenX #8, Cordelia dove into the water for a swim, but never surfaced. Mondo rarely shows emotion other than a happy nature, but he became concerned and jumped in after her. Something shocks Mondo and this then brings us up to the GenX annual '95. In the annual, Cordelia Frost is presenting a captured Mondo to a member of the Hellfire club as a way to become a member. It isn't long before the two get ambushed and the unconsious Mondo is carted away. Cordelia then goes to the Acadamy to try and get her sister to help her look for Mondo. (Note: Cordelia and Emma do not get along) As Mondo is being transported by his captors, he regains consciousness. Waking up in a liquid filled tube, he then uses his powers to escape. Mondo is a tactile metamorpher or an omnimorph, this meaning that he can turn into whatever he touches or absorbs. In this case, Mondo became one with the liquid and "vanished", when the liquid was drained from the tube he was in, the liquid began to swirl at the guards feet and then swelled into a liquid form of Mondo. The guards tried to shoot him but he merely changed the liquid to steam and the guards shot each other instead. Mondo changed back to his regular form and then slipped outside onto the street and snuck some clothing off the racks of a street vendor's shop. At this time, Cordelia managed to convince Emma to help her and the kids took off to find Mondo. Mondo is caught by the clothing clerk, this alerts his captors as to were Mondo is. In typical happy-Mondo fashion, he tries politely to diffuse the situation and GenX comes crashing onto the scene.

During the melee, Mondo loses it for a minute and once again uses his powers on the guards. This time he melds into the pavement and reforms in a pavement body form out of the ground and throws the guards around. Realizing they're being defeated, the captors literally disappear. Mondo and Cordelia are now free and they go with Emma back to the Acadamy. Later while Cordelia is musing on the steps, she is afraid he knows she set him up, but Mondo innocently believes she is his friend and everything will be fine from then on. She bids him goodbye as she is going back to the island but tells him to have fun and learn of his powers. He bids her a happy goodbye and goes back inside to prepare for his orientation party. In GenX #10, we see the party starting and as usual, something happens to disrupt the GenXers happiness, welcome to Generation X, Mondo!

Now things aren't to last long with the usually happy go lucky Mondo. Not too much can be said on Mondo's nature as he only has two settings, calm and calmer. He is almost always in a good mood, no matter what the situation. He usually has a kind thing to say to the others whenever they feel down. Too bad that seemed to be all to this character. He experimented with his powers, was able to meld into forms such as brick, pavement, liquid, earth and plant life. It was this last change that spelled the end for Mondo. It was in GenX #24, leading up to the "Operation Zero Tolerance" storyline that we saw Mondo outside the Acadamy talking to someone. He merely says "Mondo is tired of waiting. Now...?" to which the shadowed figure tells him to be patient, it will happen soon. What is Mondo waiting for? Well, you'll find out in the next issue, GenX #25. You see, this issue had the most surprising opening. A furious, mishapen plant-form Mondo is attacking Banshee and threatening to kill him. A plant form Mondo has attacked the whole team and they are on the run. Later, after going after Jubilee, Bastion approaches him and points a gun to Mondo's head, to which he fires. A shocked Jubilee can't believe that her teammate had tried to kill her, but even more is that he is now dead. That was the last we have ever seen of Mondo. Apparantly, this attack and transformation of Mondo was caused by Black Tom Cassidy. Black Tom Cassidy, who can control plants, was the one who was trying to capture the GenX teens and take them away from Banshee, his cousin. He tells a captured Banshee that "I've been planning this for months -- since I put my creation -- my version -- of Mondo... among ye!" That was the last mention we have seen in reference to Mondo.

Note: Scott Lobdell has mentioned in interviews and questions on the boards that while they did not care much for the character Mondo, he never did really show up in the comic. Did you not understand that quote? Well, you see, Scott has said that Mondo never really left the island. The Mondo that we saw in the comic was a clone all along, and it was the clone who died. So in the comic reality, Mondo is still alive but he has never met Generation X before and never has been a member. There was a plot to bring the "real Mondo" to Generation X, but it was trashed and so Mondo will most likely never be in Generation X again.
