Jubilation Lee, better known as the thirteen and a half year old fun-loving Jubilee, was first introduced to the Marvel Universe in The Uncanny X-Men #244. (her actual age is undetermined, can be up to 15 years old) Jubilee was merely an orphan trying to survive and this usually involved trying to impress people at the mall with her powers. People really enjoyed her routine showing off her "articulate, quasi-animate transitory plasmoids". Essentially they are fireworks that she shoots from her hands. During her run in the comics, it shows that she has the ability to command, control and detonate these plasmoids by thought. The guards at the mall found that out quickly. You see, the guards didn't like some homeless little girl hanging around the mall and they quickly sought out to get rid of her. This task was not accomplished very successfully as she used to attend Beverly Hills Prep and accelled in gymnastics. She easily stayed out of the guards grasps, that was until they called in the "M-Squad".

The M-Squad followed in the footsteps of the original mutant catchers, "X-Factor" and made a living by capturing mutants. In the meantime while Jubilee was hiding from the guards, Storm along with Rouge, Dazzler and Psylocke, teleported into the mall with the help of Gateway. Jubilee saw this and wondered if they were mutants like her. She didn't get much a chance to think as M-Squad activated their mutant containment grid to capture Jubilee in it's tendrils. This grid did capture Jubilee, but with more mutants in the area, the grid quickly went out of control. Seeing the danger, the X-ladies rushed in to put an end to the mayhem. After being rescued by Psylocke, Jubilee disappeared into the crowds to escape the guards. With the threat now over, the X-ladies disappeared back through their teleportation portal, all the while wondering what happened to the girl they saved. It seems that they were unable to locate Jubilee with a psiscan. Little did they know that Jubilee was watching them the whole time. Deciding that she wasn't safe at the mall anymore and with nothing else to lose now that her parents were dead, she jumped in behind them as the portal closed. Thus began her journey with the X-Men.

This portal brought Jubilee back to the X-Men's hideout in Australia where she hid and watched the others. It wasn't until the X-Men were attacked by the Reavers did she come out of hiding. When Wolverine was crucified and left to die, she couldn't stand by and do nothing. She left her hiding spot and helped Wolverine back to the basement to recover. Since then they have been inseperable. Jubilee remained with the X-Men since that time and faced many obstacles while being the sidekick to Wolverine. They held a special bond since she helped free Wolverine, but when his adamantium was ripped from his skin and he fled, she was hurt and confused. The next event didn't help matters, it was known as the Phalanx Covenant. (Uncanny X-Men #316, #317, X-Men #36, #37) Within this four part storyline, beings known as the Phalanx desended in attempts to wipe out the population. Unable to process mutants, they attacked the next generation of mutants, those meant to form the team "Generation X". Jubilee was among those who had to save the captured mutants. During the fierce battle and losing a friend named Clarice "Blink" Furgeson, Jubilee realized how vunerable she and the others were and how they needed to hone their powers so decided to leave the X-Men and further her training with the next Generation of mutants, Generation X as shown in the Uncanny X-Men #318.

One would think that being with the X-Men would gain you leader status in Generation X wouldn't you say? Not likely with Jubilee, playing the class clown is right up Jubilee's alley. After the death of her parents, Jubilee was never the same. She used to be a brilliant student at Beverly Hills Prep but now she covers up her insecurities with a joke, comment or care free attitude. She's had a lot of blows dealt to her and she doesn't want people to think she is weak. While she has lots of opportunity ahead of her, she has many insecurities that keep her from reaching her potential. Unlike some of the others, she is not quite comfortable with her powers. She has accuracy with her powers but is afraid to use them in full force, she's afraid she'll hurt someone. It wasn't until Generation X #24 did she tell of her first experience as a mutant. With her parents busy, she headed to the mall with her friend, CynJen, and they did their usual shoftlifting. When trying to escape, Jubilee ended up trapped in an alley. With the guards on her, she panicked and her powers errupted from her hands. She escaped but she wasn't the same since then. If that wasn't enough to discourage you, it was a few months later that her parents were murdered. They weren't intentionally murdered, they were actually mistaken for their neighbors who were to be killed, either way Jubilee needs to find a place to belong to.

Even though Jubilee loved being with the X-Men, as you'll often hear her quip the phrase, "When I was with the X-Men we...", she admits that Generation X is where she belongs. She needs to be with kids her own age and learn how to trust them as well as have confidence in herself. She does get along with most of her teammates, save Monet, but she shares a bond with Everett. He seems to be the only one she can really confide in. Maybe it's his relaxed attitude and the patience he shows when it comes to helping others. She does have a crush on him, after all he was one of the first members she met in the Phalanx Covenant and he gave her a shoulder to lean on as well as show her the potential of her powers. They seem to compliment each other and be able to bring out the best in each other. As much as she tries to show she has a tough, "who cares?" attitude, she knows she needs to boost her powers and confidence if she wants to be an X-Man. She doesn't want to let Wolverine down, let her former teammates down or her current team. Jubilee has a lot of high hopes and expectations riding on her shoulders and she wants to be able to excel while keeping her mallrat feel. Banshee and White Queen have their hands full just trying to teach and help her but they do care and wish the best for her. It's all up to Jubilee if she can jump the hurdles she's faced with to regain her status as an X-Man.
